Getting a job in the modern day is becoming harder and harder. Educational institutions and other training institutions are regularly churning up thousands of qualified persons who are expected to join the working force. Unfortunately, available job are not being increased at the same rate as new qualified persons are being increased. As such, many of the graduates from college and training camps are not being integrated into the system and they end up as floating jobless talents.
As the population of jobless people increases, it causes a great strain to the society and to the nation as a whole. People who are unemployed need to survive and they need to meet their various needs just like anybody else. They need to feed, they need a house to live in, they need to have clothes, and other numerous costly needs.
The needs of the jobless people often end up being met by other close relations that have a source of income. This could be parents, friends, or guardians.
Many times jobless people cannot find any monetary support from other sources or the help they might be getting might not be enough. As such, many jobless people will resort to other ways of getting some money. Many times these are unscrupulous ways of earning money. They include activities such as stealing, fraud, blackmail, drug dealing, prostitution, kidnapping, and other illegal and corrupt ways of making money.
After college, I happened to find myself in this category of jobless people. Despite performing well in college, I simply could not find a place that could employ me for my data analysis skills.
Living in Singapore is expensive and I could see that I was a great burden for my parents who still had the responsibility of educating my younger siblings. I realized that I could end up waiting for a very long time before getting a job so I decided to look for other income generating opportunities.
In Singapore there is usually a high demand for houses especially for people who want to get short term rentals. This is especially the case with students (foreign and local), expatriates, visitors, immigrants, or any other people who want a house for a short duration of time. Since most of these people are usually not familiar with the region in which they are looking for a house, they are usually desperate for any kind of help that would help them get the kind of house they are looking for.
Given that I was quite familiar with the area where we lived, I decided that I would try making some money as a real estate agent helping people who were looking for a room to rent. Having been born and brought up in the same community, I was well acquainted with many of the people who lived in the locality. As such, it would be easy for me to form a relationship with the landowners who would inform me of any available rooms or houses. I would then provide the information for a fee to anyone who wanted to rent a room in the locality.
